A medium to large tree, which is particularly fast growing in its first few years. A row of these makes a good screen or windbreak, and it is well worth considering where there is an incidence of honey fungus as it shows good resistance. Its compound leaves, more like those of an ash, make this species unique among maples. A good choice for heavy clay soils and for waterside plantings, but it performs just as well in lighter, drier ones. It also tolerates air pollution and soil compaction. Very adaptable and recommended as a street tree.
